Velociraptor foi um dinossauro carnívoro. Ele viveu no período Cretáceo e residia na Ásia.

Velociraptor é provavelmente um dos dinossauros mais famosos que já viveu.

Ele conseguiu esta fama por causa de um filme, no início da década de 1990 intitulado “Jurassic Park”. Neste filme, o tamanho do Velociraptor foi aumentado para fazê-lo parecer mais assustador.

Na época, primo maior do Velociraptor, Utahraptor, ainda não tinha sido descoberto. Utahraptor é muito maior do Velociraptor.

A cauda do Velociraptor era feita de ossos fundidos duros, que a tornaram muito inflexível. Apesar de não ser útil como uma arma, cauda do Velociraptor foi muito importante para manter o animal equilibrado quando ele caçava, corria ou pulava.

O que o Velociraptor nome significa: Caçador Rápido.

Sua arma mais formidável era as garras curvadas sobre as patas traseiras.

Seu nome, escolhido por Henry Fairfield Osborn em 1924 significa “ladrão veloz”.

Velociraptor foi encontrado pela primeira vez e descrito por paleontólogo HF Osborn na Mongólia em 1924.

Vivendo principalmente na Mongólia, o Velociraptor pertencia a uma família de perigosos e astutos caçadores.

Esse animal tinha a aparência de um lagarto, tanto na pele quanto no formato, mas movia-se com a velocidade e a inteligência de um leopardo.

Tinha uma cabeça de 16cm e focinho alongado.

O Velociraptor possuía clavícula, o que era incomum nos outros dinossauro.

Desse modo, os braços ganhavam forças para agarrar a vítima com mais firmeza.

Esse animal era esperto o suficiente para saber que andando em bando, conseguiria com mais facilidade abater presas maiores.

Antes da descoberta do Velociraptor na Mongólia, em 1924, cientistas achavam que os dinossauros eram seres lerdos e estúpidos.

Mas o Velociraptor, além ágil era também muito inteligente.
