Epistemologia

Epistemologia, também chamada de Teoria do Conhecimento é, segundo Hessen: a área da Filosofia que busca compreender as questões ligadas ao conhecimento humano.

Para isso, ela recorre a filósofos desde os antigos aos contemporâneos, que com as mais diversas abordagens e tematizações fornecem diversas possibilidades de se pensar esse fenômeno tão humano quanto é o conhecimento.

Dentre as correntes filosóficas que trabalham embasadas na teoria do conhecimento, citamos: Dogmatismo, Ceticismo, Relativismo, Pragmatismo e Criticismo (ponto intermediário entre o ceticismo e dogmatismo). A seguir, uma breve definição das referidas correntes filosóficas.

Dogmatismo: Entende a verdade como pressuposta e aceita de forma irrefletida.

Ceticismo: Rejeita a relação epistemológica entre sujeito e objeto a ponto de inviabilizar o conhecimento da verdade. Leia mais

Relativismo: Teoria que rejeita a universalidade do conhecimento e afirma a inexistência de verdades absolutas. É claramente expresso na frase de Leonardo Boff: “Todo ponto de vista é a vista de um ponto”.

Pragmatismo: Doutrina fundada pelos filósofos americanos C. Pierce e W. James, o pragmatismo identifica a veracidade de uma proposição à sua utilidade para o indivíduo ou grupo de indivíduos. Essa corrente encontra-se claramente expressa,no pensamento de Nietzsche, nos seguintes termos: “A falsidade de um juízo não chega a constituir, para nós, uma objeção contra ele; […] A questão é em que medida ele promove ou conserva a vida, conserva ou até mesmo cultiva a espécie […].

Criticismo: O conhecimento é possível, a verdade existe, mas precisa ser posta constantemente à prova. Seu expoente principal é o filósofo prussiano Kant que estabelece um meio termo entre o dogmatismo e o ceticismo.

Epistemologia

Quanto à origem do conhecimento evidenciam-se duas correntes filosóficas de suma importância na Modernidade: Racionalismo e Empirismo que, em desacordo, propõem métodos específicos para a investigação filosófica, apelando ora para as ideias inatas ora às experiências na possibilidade de se alcançar o conhecimento.

O racionalismo é a corrente epistemológica que vê na razão a principal fonte do conhecimento universal e objetivo que independe da experiência sensível (empírica). Exemplo desse conhecimento teríamos a matemática e a lógica que não são baseadas na experiência, mas na necessidade lógica e validade universal. Seus principais representantes são: Platão, Plotino, St. Agostinho, Malebranche, Descartes e Leibniz.

O empirismo vê a experiência como a principal fonte para o conhecimento. Seus representantes máximos são: Locke e Hume que, baseados nos métodos das ciências naturais, veem a mente humana como se fosse uma espécie de folha de papel em branco (“tábula rasa”) a ser preenchida pelos caracteres da experiência, das sensações. Nessa perspectiva, o sujeito apreende o objeto por meio da experiência, mas especificamente pela mediação dos órgãos dos cinco sentidos.
