O que são junções intercelulares?

Alguns organismos são compostos por uma única célula e, dentro dela são realizadas todas as suas funções vitais, outros conhecidos como multicelulares possuem tecidos e órgãos constituídos por inúmeras células, estes são responsáveis por várias funções nesses organismos.

Para que possam exercer suas funções, as células tem que se manterem juntas, grudadas umas as outras, entrando em ação as junções intercelulares, que se localizam na membrana plasmática e são responsáveis pela união das células.

Não são encontradas em todos os tipos de células, nas células do sangue, por exemplo, elas não existem, pois as células sanguíneas são transportadas por todo o corpo, por isso elas não precisam de junções, diferente do que acontece com as células da pele, onde são bastante encontradas, pois precisam ficar bastantes próximas uma das outras para impedir, por exemplo, a entrada de micro-organismos, que poderiam causar doenças.

Além de se aderirem umas as outras as células também podem se aderir a matriz extracelular. Esta é o conjunto de moléculas produzidas e exportadas pelas células, elas ficam no entorno oferecendo sustentação as mesmas. Uma das principais moléculas da matriz é o colágeno.

Junções Intercelulares

Na divisão celular as células que vivem aderidas a uma superfície, precisam se soltar, para isso seus prolongamentos são recolhidos e, a célula volta à forma arredondada. Depois da divisão as células filhas voltam a se aderir a superfície.

Existem vários tipos de junções com diferentes funções:

Junção de oclusão: age como uma barreira, impedindo que as substâncias como água e nutrientes atravessem livremente a membrana que separa uma célula da outra.

Junção comunicante: tem a função de permitir que substâncias de uma célula passem para outras. Composta por canais que ligam os citoplasmas de duas células.

Junção aderente e desmossomo: possuem uma função bastante parecida e simples, manter as células aderidas, no entanto, a estrutura de cada uma dessas junções é diferente e, por isso sua relação com a adesão celular também.

Hemidesmossomo e adesão focal: são as junções responsáveis pela adesão da célula à matriz extracelular. Esses dois tipos de junções são constituídos principalmente por uma família de proteínas denominadas integrinas, que se localizam na membrana da célula e se comunicam tanto com o exterior, quanto com o interior celular. As integrinas tem a capacidade de se ligar as proteínas da matriz extracelular, fazendo com que a célula fique aderida e seja sustentada por ela. Além disso, são capazes de transmitir informações do meio externo para a célula, alterando seu metabolismo.
