O que é HPV?

Ao falarmos de HPV, estamos falando de vírus que apresenta capacidade de infecção de pele e mucosa. São mais de 150 tipos diferentes de HPV, lembrando que a sigla vem do inglês (Human Papiloma Virus) e significa papilomavírus humano. Ele também é conhecido, popularmente, como condiloma acuminado, verruga genital, crista de galo, cavalo, cavalo de crista, couve-flor, jacaré e jacaré de crista, por exemplo.

Vale lembrar que, destes 150, cerca de 40 tipos de vírus HPVs podem infectar o trato ano-genital. Quando o vírus afeta os órgãos genitais, trata-se de uma DST (Doença Sexualmente Transmitida).

O vírus do HPV apresenta DNA de dupla hélice. Ele conta com cerca de 8.000 pares de bases nitrogenadas, as quais são responsáveis pela codificação de todas as funções do vírus. Quanto ao tamanho, a partícula viral apresenta 55 nanômetros (nm) de diâmetro e não apresenta envelope lipídico.

Transmissão

A transmissão deste vírus ocorre pelo contato direto com locais infectados (mucosa ou pele), sendo que a principal forma de transmissão ocorre pela via sexual. Isso pode ocorrer pelos contatos: oral-genital, genital-genital ou mesmo manual-genital.

Desta forma, é importante ressaltar que os vírus do HPV podem ser transmitidos sem ocorrer, necessariamente, a penetração do órgão reprodutor feminino ou orifício retal. Inclusive, durante o trabalho de parto, pode ocorrer a transmissão para a criança, caso a mãe esteja com o vírus. Vale lembrar que o HPV é um vírus universal: ele não tem preferências, podendo atingir qualquer sexo, idade, raça, etnia. Além disso, ele pode se instalar em qualquer lugar do corpo.

Sintomas

O HPV genital, de forma geral, não apresenta sintomas, a não ser que seja um tipo de HPV responsável por causar verrugas genitais. Estas verrugas podem surgir num espaço de semanas ou meses após o contato com um parceiro infectado com o vírus. As verrugas se apresentam, geralmente, como pequenas protuberâncias na região genital, podendo variar de tamanho pequenos a grandes.

Elas podem ainda ser planas ou proeminentes, contando ainda com aspecto similar a “couve-flor”. A maioria das pessoas nunca saberá que têm HPV, pois não apresentam sintomas e os próprios sistemas imunológicos inativam o vírus.

HPV e Câncer

É importante ressaltar que, em casos em que a infecção persiste (geralmente, oriunda de tipo viral oncogênico, ou seja, com capacidade de originar câncer), pode ocorrer o desenvolvimento de lesões que podem progredir para o câncer, principalmente no colo do útero. Elas lesões podem ainda afetar vagina, vulva, ânus, pênis, orofaringe e boca. São 13 tipos de HPV considerados oncogênicos.

Tratamento

Não há tratamento específico, porém, é importante consultar um clínico geral para encaminhamento. Em determinados casos é possível a utilização, para o tratamento, de laser, eletrocauterização, ácido tricloroacético e medicamentos que melhoram o sistema imunológico. Importante: só o médico pode apontar a conduta mais adequado. Também há vacinas, as quais são preventivas, porém elas só previnem a determinados tipos de HPV.
